Hi There,

Ok, so I have just missed the June cut-off but I'm sure I'll be forgiven... 10 burpees as punishment for me ;)

It's cold, it's miserable and you'll notice that alot of people are injured or sick which is why I've dedicated the Exercise Corner to that very topic. I tend to find alot of people try to 'push through' the injury or pain & I want to share my professional advise on what I think you should do during those times.

For our Nutrition Corner this month we've been very fortunate in we have an expert nutritionist (Vanessa Foley) helping us out and giving us information on a variety of foods that are both tasty & healthy! Be sure to try out the receipe & let me know what you think!

Finally the last mention goes to our upcoming workshoph in August: Healthy Eating for Children with Food Therapist Kim Bishop. It's going to be a fabulous event where you can learn about great foods for your kids to eat (and even some healthy tasty snacks for their lunchboxes). Be quick to register though as places are limited!

So please stay warm and healthy during these cold months & continue to Make It Happen!

Wishing you great Health & Fitness

Lots of Luv

Exercise Corner

Don't exercise when you're injured!

It's that time of year. It's cold, we are half way through the year and people are becoming run down, getting sick and those niggling little issues in your body become injuries.

My quick tip today is please please please do not continue to exercise when you are sick or injured! I realise that it can be frustrating and you are afraid that you may 'fall of the bandwagon' but remember 2 simple things:

1) You're not going to apply that ALL or NOTHIGN attitude you may have had in the past. Take the time out to recover and get better and when you're feeling well - then you can get moving again. It doesn't mean that if you stop for a week to get better than you'll throw in the towel because you've stopped. That's the old you! The other great thing is you've got lot's of motivational tools around you that will continually remind you of what it is you want to acheive (Group Training / Personal Training / Receving ongoing education through newsletters / You're accountable to your family & friends etc).

2) If you continue to exercise and 'push through the pain' and ignoring the body's warning signals, you are more than likely going to do more damage to yourself and be out of the 'game' even longer! What's worse is you could potentially be aggrivating the problem even more and make the injury more serious than it is. Remember one to two weeks off to recover in the scheme of your life isn't very much time. However making a 1-2 week injury last for a couple of months, that will have a major impact on your lifestyle!

If you're ill or injured take the time off to recover. You're body is run down and needs the rest (otherwise you wouldn't be injured in the first place!) If you are really concerned that you're going to put on weight or feel terrible during that time - Eat WELL! Be super dilligent in your eating & you won't pile on those kilos. I also recommend going and seeing a specialist if you have an injury to ensure you recover in the quickest possible time frame and don't aggrivate the problem further.

So if you're in the 'injured' category go and make an appointment now to see a specialist and get that injury checked out so we have minimal downtime!

And if you're in the 'not well' catergory, go grab a nice cuppa, a bowl of chicken soup & get well soon! :)

Nutrition Corner
By Vanessa Foley. Vanesas is the founder of New Beginning Health & Wellbeing and has very kindly offered to share some of her nutritional expertise with us. Over the coming months Vanessa will be sharing with us some great foods (with an alphabetical twist) to broaden our cooking horizons. Enjoy!

"A" is for Adzuki Bean
These tiny beans are a powerhouse of goodness!
They're great for removing exess fluid, heat and toxins from the body and are useful for people undergoing a weight loss program.

From a nutritional perspective, adzuki beans contain a high percentage of protein and can be used as a savoury dish or made into adzuki bars for a sweet treat.  They're easy to prepare and quicker to cook than many other legumes, and taste great with the sweeter vegetables such as pumpkin or sweet potato.

If cooking legumes is not your thing or you're short on time, the good news is that adzuki beans can also be purchased in a can (check out your local organic shop).  Add them to soups or stews or try one of my favourite quick and tasty recipes - adzuki bean bolognaise.

This is a great vegetarian alternative to having a meat bolognaise and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! This dish is delicious served with spelt pasta or as a base for a sweet potato shepherd's pie, or simply served over steamed rice.
